Mid-Way Check In
So far I have read through half of Act 3 of Romeo and Juliet. By this point in the story we have been introduced to all of our main characters, such as Romeo, Juliet, the Nurse, Mercutio, Benvolio, Tybalt, and Friar Lawrence. We have also been introduced to more conflict, besides just the family rivalry that was seen from the start. Since the first act my opinion on some characters have changed a bit, especially my opinion on Romeo. In the first act I really did not like Romeo because he was just a whiny teenage boy who was love-sick over Rosaline, but since then he has fallen in love, yet again, but this time he is convince that it's true love, and that is with Juliet. My opinion on Juliet has not changed much because I feel like she has stayed the same for the most part, but you can tell that after she fell in love with Romeo she did change a little bit. I just finished reading the part when the nurse informed Juliet that Romeo has been banished from the city of Verona (Act 3, scene 2.) This came right after an intimate monologue from Juliet where she talks about how much she wishes she could marry Romeo. I think that this is the most notable change so far. At the beginning Juliet did not want love or marriage, but now that she has met Romeo that is all she wants. The conflict between the two families has only gotten worse because right before this monologue, and the reason why Romeo got banished, is because there was a fight between him, Benvolio, and Tybalt, which resulted in Tybalts death. This fight only got the conflict stirring even more, but we will have to see what happens. I am interested in seeing what Romeo and Juliet do to deal with him getting banished, especially because they just got married. I have a feeling that the families are going to find out about the marraige sometime soon and that will cause more conflict. Maybe they will find out if the pair run off together? I am not sure, but I am excited to keep reading and find out.
